Brit Awards 2022: Makeup Trends
If you’re looking for makeup inspiration, it doesn’t get much better than a red carpet. And the carpet at this year’s Brits didn’t disappoint. The Brit Awards was back in full, dazzling effect after last year’s pared-down version. But while some of the winners might have been predictable (Adele scooped three of the four main categories), the makeup certainly was not. Eyeliner featured heavily – as did super long eyelashes. But we also saw a delectable mix of colourful eyeshadow, metallics, statement blusher and nude lips. Here are six of our favourite makeup trends from the night - which one will you try next?
1. Killer Eyeliner
Eyeliner is one of this year’s biggest beauty hits with graphic eyeliner trends including the banana, bat-wing, floating and fishtail looks. So unsurprisingly, there was no shortage of eyeliner on the Brits red carpet. Stars embracing the graphic eyeliner look included Maya Jama who nailed a Cher-inspired floating eyeliner to perfection. While Abby Robert’s goth-inspired liner that ran across the bridge of her nose and was framed with a pastel pink took the trend to the next level. Adele stuck with her signature winged liner but elevated it by adding a small wing to the inner corner of her eye. Olivia Rodrigo secured her status as Y2K revival style icon by pairing her super sharp cat-eye liner with brown lip liner, too. Recreate your own graphic or winged eyeliner look with Code8’s Precision Liquid Eyeliner. Its ultra-fine brush allows for precision and its high-purity ink gives the deepest colour density.
2. Nude Lips
You can’t go wrong with a nude lip. As well as subtly enhancing your pout, it’s also an effortless way to help skin look fresh and youthful. When Courtney Cox stepped out onto the red carpet, her nude lip looked wonderfully natural. Opting for a pink nude, it perfectly complemented her simple makeup palette and soft smoky eyes. Another celebrity rocking a nude lip was Vick Hope. The peachy shade she wore was the ideal addition to her Diana Ross-esqe hair and enhanced her envy-inducing radiant glow. For a nude lip that is soft, silky and gives long-lasting coverage, look no further than Code8’s AM/PM Tinted Lip Balm. Available in three shades ranging from pink to peach, it will add a subtle, healthy glow to your lips all day long. It also provides protection against the elements and hydrates the lips to fight against the early signs of ageing. Pucker up!
3. Bold Eyeshadow
Last year we had fun playing around with bright, vivid eyeshadow colours. And in 2022, transforming our eyelids into vibrant mosaics is still big news. Even the most unexpected shades are making their way onto our cosmetic radars. One colour that’s made a big comeback this year is green – and honestly, we cannot get enough of it. Nor, it seems, can Jaime Winstone. Her choice of emerald green applied to the inner corners of her eyes to match her green feather boa was a winning combination on this year’s red carpet. Code8’s Iconoclast Eyeshadow Palette in Jaipur Marbles has all the shades you need to create your own sophisticated, yet contemporary look. From tarnished gold and deep pink to shimmery green, be as bold as you dare!
Remember when metallic makeup was the preserve of Christmas and New Year? Not anymore. In 2022, metallics are a year-round beauty must-have with everything from super-sparkly eyeshadow to glitter to face jewels making an appearance at celebrity events (and in our makeup bags). At the Brits, Laura Whitmore opted for heavily glittered eyes to create a sparkly nod to HBO’s Euphoria. As well as bejewelled eyelids, crystals also featured in her hair and on her clothing to tie the whole look together. Meanwhile, Strictly’s AJ Odudu shimmered to perfection with pale metallic eyeshadow shades. Her soft glam look was given added drama with tight lined liner and a glossy lip. Get your own pro metallic look with Code8’s Iconoclast Eyeshadow Palette. With four colour combinations to choose from and six shades apiece, they’re highly pigmented, incredibly shiny, and long lasting. Even better, they’re designed to flatter all complexions and eye colours. Create your own dramatic after-dark look with whichever sparkly shade takes your fancy.
5. Statement Blusher
Wondering how to wear your blusher in 2022? In short: go bold or go home. Statement blusher is back with colour flowing from the apples of your cheeks all the way to your temples – and beyond. Celebrities who made statement blusher a key feature in their Brits look this year included Lola Young, whose rose-tinted cheeks complimented her fresh-faced appeal. And let’s not forget Bree Runway. Her strong blusher look turned almost as many heads as her gold foil hair and sky-high fluffy eyelashes. Create your own radiant look with Code8’s Blush Palette, which delivers blendable and adjustable colour intensity and gives you plenty of bang for your buck. Tripling up as a highlighter and eyeshadow as well as a blusher, this hard-working product will give you anything from a natural flush to a much bolder, statement glow. Team it with the HD Highlighter Palette to make your cheeks really pop.
6. Super Long Eyelashes
Last, but by no means least, we have the super long lashes that were seen on pretty much everyone this year. Of course, the ‘flutteriest eyelash award’ has to go to Bree Runway and her extended, feather-like lashes. But she wasn’t alone. Lola Young, Maya Jama, Ashley Roberts and Vick Hope all made sure their eyelashes had volume, length and a definite wow-factor. Give your lashes a touch of sophistication with Code 8’s Lash Sophisticate High Definition Mascara. Both defining and lengthening, this mascara promises to pump up the volume with excellent staying power. One coat is enough to give you a defined, natural look. But build it up and you’ll be amazed just how voluminous your lashes can look – and all with a deep, rich colour pay-off, too.
