Haute Couture Fashion Week SS20: Ziad Nakad x Code8
Inspired by the magical underwater city of Atlantis, the Ziad Nakad SS20 show at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week took us to the depths of the ocean. It turns out that down in the deep, women are stronger than on land. Dressed in floor-length gowns, the models made their way down the catwalk with fluid-like movements which perfectly matched their mermaid silhouettes. Adorned with sparkling crystals, delicate beading and feather accents, it was clear that these women were powerful underwater creatures.
Shades of seafoam green, icy blue and shimmering metallics dominated the collection, but every now and then a model would appear in a flash of blood orange and pale violet, mimicking the vibrancy of a tropical fish you might find at the bottom of the sea.
Atlantis is often regarded as a utopian society that has worked out the secret to peace, and this idea of a futuristic community was clear not only in the clothes but in the catwalk's make-up looks too. Appearing like other-worldly beings, renowned make-up Natasha Lakic gave the models unusual face shapes by playing with proportions.
To create Ziad Naked's desired catwalk ready makup looks, she started with the Seamless Cover Concealer and brushed it over the models brows to mute them down, allowing their other features (like their eyes) to appear much bigger. Natasha further sculpted the eye area by applying the shimmering metallic shades from the Iconoclast Eyeshadow Palette in Velvet Chrome into the inner and outer corners of the eyes, helping to make the eyes look wider. She finished the look with lashing of the Lash Sophisticate High Definition Mascara to add extra length and drama.
To achieve the models dewy glow, Natasha applied the Code8 Radiate Beauty Balm all over the face. Packed with Pectin and Argan Seed Oil, the moisturising formula smoothed all signs of fine lines and blurred any unwanted redness giving the models a catwalk-ready makeup look. The Seamless Cover Concealer was used to hide larger blemishes and dark under-eye circles, so the models could appear like fresh-faced sea beauties.
The complexion was set with the Matte Velour Powder and the award-winning Highlight HD Palette was used to draw attention to the cheekbones and high points of the face. A stunning rose gold shade, it’s light-reflecting properties helped to give a pearlescent shimmer that resembled light reflecting off of the water.
To finish the look, the Colour Brilliance Lipstick in La Piscine was applied for a natural but pretty pout. A perfect nude beige, it added a touch of shine to carry on the glittering sea theme of the Ziad Nakad collection as the models floated down the catwalk.
