London Fashion Week SS20: Chalayan X Code8 Recap
The designer is renowned for paying homage to the realities of life, cultural identity, migration and nature and his SS20 show continued with this signature, inquisitive style. In some cases, the references to colonial times were subtle and in others they were blindly obvious with models carrying walking sticks and sun hats.
The show-stopping piece that was all over Instagram? A pleated, fan-like structure that engulfed the model from behind. It was innovative, beautiful and unmistakably Chalayan. In contrast to the larger-than-life silhouettes, other pieces such as a houndstooth tailored suit and floral midi dress were highly wearable and ultra flattering. (We’ll take one of each please).
For the beauty looks, lead makeup artist Mathias Van Hooff wanted to portray an innocent Victorian girl. Very natural, slightly flushed and with a dewy finish. The Chalayan girl has the ultimate fresh face. Want to recreate the look? Here’s how:
Blend Radiate Beauty Balm into your skin with a stippling brush. Lightly cover any imperfections under your eyes and on any red areas, remembering to keep it light for a fresh, barely there base.
Then mix Matte Velour Lipstick in Lima and Lost In Translation on the back of your hand to create a natural flushed shade. Apply it lightly to the apple of your cheeks with a fluffy blending brush. (It’s an easy cheat to healthy looking skin.)
Finally, apply a small amount of AM/PM Tinted Lip Balm in Chamelon to moisturize your pout. Then take some more of the Matte Velour Lipstick in Lima and Lost In Translation mix you created for the blush and dab it onto your lips to create a subtle stain.
Ruddy cheeks and just bitten lips? Victoriana glamour just got a millennial update and we're totally into it.
