How to entertain yourself on lockdown (when you’ve already watched everything on Netflix).
We all need to do our part to help stop the spread, but self-isolating doesn’t have to be boring. Instead take your newly found free time as a chance to indulge in some indoor activities that don’t include mindless scrolling through Instagram or hours in front of the television. Discover our top seven suggestions below and keep yourself entertained, educated, and enlightened during the COVID-19 lockdown.
GIVE YOUR HOME A DEEP CLEAN
Make like Marie Kondo and use this spare time to get your house in order. Reorganise your kitchen cupboards, sort through your makeup bag or just blast your favourite tunes and get hoovering in all those awkward places you usually miss. Not only is cleaning good for the mind, it’s also an easy way to burn any extra calories you may have consumed from excessive lockdown snacking.
START A NEW PROJECT
Now is the perfect time to do that thing you've been putting off. Promised yourself you’d take up knitting? Always wanted to speak French? Wished you had the time to learn a musical instrument? Well now you do.
Write a list of all those skills and tasks you’ve been meaning to do and start working your way through them now. We know you’ve been putting off cleaning your makeup brushes, throwing out old foundations and sorting through your wardrobe too, so it’s time to tackle those tedious tasks. Not only will it help pass the time, it also means you’ll come out of self-isolation smarter and much more cultured.
IMPROVE YOUR POSTURE
If you’ve temporarily had to say goodbye to office life, you’ve probably also said farewell to your uncomfortable desk chair and long days in high heels. While you're giving your body a break, now’s the perfect time to stretch out, loosen up and work on improving your posture.
The NHS website has plenty of tutorials to help you correct your alignments, with simple poses like plank and bridge.
TRY YOUR HAND AT GARDENING
Luckily the weather is warming up again which means now is the ideal time to plant vegetables.
If you’re new to the world of gardening, why not use the isolation as an opportunity to give it a go? The Royal Horticultural Society website has tips and tricks for those with a garden, but if you have a balcony or absolutely no outdoor space at all try starting with houseplants and herb planters you can leave on the windowsill.
EXPERIMENT WITH MAKEUP
Just because you’re stuck inside doesn’t mean you can’t make an effort and indulge in some self-care. Putting on a bright red lipstick or trying out a new eyeshadow technique is a fun way to beat boredom.

HAVE A VIRTUAL COFFEE DATE
Social interaction is something we’re all missing at the moment, but you can keep your spirits up by video chatting with friends and relatives. FaceTime, Skype and Zoom are all free to use and make it possible to connect with anyone, anywhere in the world. Put the kettle on, grab some biscuits and sit down with your laptop for a good old natter.
Exercise is great for both your mental and psychical health, so it’s important to keep fit even if you’re staying inside. YouTube offers endless at home workouts for free so grab your leggings and head to your home gym (aka the living room).
