How did the idea of Code8 first come about?
Nadine: We were both feeling like we were not represented in the media. We both enjoy quality makeup but we didn't have an affinity to a particular brand as most of them feel too young for us.
Sophia: We just want to keep makeup simple and easy to use. The multi-step makeup routine is tiring and it needs to be simplified. With the extra time saved, people can make the most out of their life.
What was your proudest moment of 2019?
Nadine: We are very lucky to be able to say that we have at least 4-5 amazing moments in our first year. It's really hard to pinpoint just one moment. For example, a couple of months after we launched, we did London Fashion Week and recently we created products for Tate Modern 'Dora Maar' Exhibition.
Sophia: This year, our products received 4 awards! To be welcomed by the professionals in the beauty industry was incredible and it meant a lot to us.
Nadine: Being on Net-A-Porter is huge for us also.
Sophia: We are grateful to a lot of the press that we received. We have a lot of makeup artists that love our brand and regularly use our products on their clients as well.
Nadine: Although, we didn't plan on creating makeup for makeup artists to have our Burlington Store become a creative hub for them to express their creativity and create products to take to their customers, fashion shows and shoots has given us great credibility in this industry.
What advice would you give someone who is trying to balance their career and personal life?
Nadine: Balance is very important, it's at the core of our brand. Living a modern life in a big city it is very competitive and you need to find time for yourself. Modern life is about managing your time. For me, I like to wake up a couple of hours earlier in the morning to have some time to myself to arrange my day. My advice would be to find your best way of managing your time that works with your life.
Any self-care tips that you live by?
Nadine: Taking care of your skin is very important.
Sophia: I say that it's more important than the makeup. In my beauty routine, skincare takes up 90% of my time and only 10% is on makeup.
Who has inspired you the most?
Nadine: I find that people in my life such as friends, mother and sister inspire me the most in my everyday life.
Sophia: I agree, it depends on the situation as well. With our brand ethos, we want women to be smart about who they look up to. We can get inspirations from women in every walk of life like a chef or a politician. It doesn't necessarily have to always be the celebrities that most people look up to.
Is there anything that you wish you could tell your younger self?
Sophia: I don't have any regrets but I wish I had worked more on self-confidence and focus more on education, I believe that there is no limit to education.
Nadine: I don't know if I would tell myself anything. The thing is I feel like I have to find my way in life.
Anything you wish to say to the customers that have been supportive of Code8 this year?
Nadine: We would like to thank them, we have some amazing customers and returning customers and they have been super welcoming. It's amazing for us to be able to say that we have loyal Code8 customers in this first year.
Sophia: We want to say a big thank you and hopefully we can bring to them many more products to highlight their day and help them live their best life in the coming year.
