From Christmas decoration hacks to expert hosting tips, we’re here to make sure this festive season is your family and friends most magical one yet.
If you’ve been tasked with hosting this holiday season there’s no need to panic. Discover our tips on how to throw the ultimate Christmas party, including how to keep your dining room set up chic (even when the guest list suddenly grows) and the top treats to give your loved ones as a memento of an extra special evening.
Before your guests arrive
There’s plenty of prep to be done before anyone even sets foot in the door but don’t worry, our co-founder Nadine knows exactly how to fill a space with seasonal spirit. “For me, Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I love to host and celebrate my loved ones. My Christmas party essentials are a beautiful Christmas wreath for your front door to set the tone, a very well lit and heavily decorated tree to give that cosy festive feel.”
Founder Sophia also suggests “Scented candles and soft lighting throughout the home. Lots of champagne for the arrival of guests helps to get them in the mood, and of course, the classic cheerful Christmas songs in the background to complete the atmosphere.”
** Christmas Decoration hack ** - Use two different size fairy lights to make your Christmas tree look even more impressive.
Whilst you’re hosting
It’s important to make sure there’s enough space for all your guests (no one likes feeling squashed into their seat) so having a dining set up that can be easily rearranged is ideal. Interiors blogger Emma Jane Palin (@emmajanepalin) says “Christmas is all about coming together so don’t worry too much about mismatched chairs at dinner time. Grab what you need from other rooms in the house and use your dining table settings and centrepieces to bring your theme together.”
** Festive Hosting tip ** - Don't stay in your seat all day. Everyone wants time with the host, so try to mingle and move around the table throughout the festivities.
When it’s time to eat
If you’re not blessed with cookery skills or just don’t have the time (you’ll probably be too busy decorating) then why not hire a catering company to create a bespoke menu for the day? They’ll consult with you on what your guests enjoy and you can name dishes after family members or friends for an extra special touch.
To really take things to the next level of luxury, book a private chef. Foodie friends will love to experience having some of the freshest dishes they’ve ever tasted being prepared in the comfort of your home.
** Dinner etiquette ** - Be sure to always have a vegan, nut-free and gluten-free option on standby, people’s dietary requirements change on a whim and you can never know if there’ll be a plus one with a dairy problem.
The end of the evening
It’s always elegant to give your guests something small to remember the evening by, which is why table favours always go down a treat. If you’re going for a traditional Christmas feel, crackers are a timeless choice but for something extra special choose ones that you can fill yourself. Each guest can receive a personalised treat: a miniature bottle of whiskey for the drinks connoisseur, a photo keyring for the family man and one of Code8's award-winning Precision Liquid Eyeliner for the beauty lover.
Alternatively, why not hang small presents from the tree, allowing each guest to take one off on the way home as a memento of the day? Cashmere socks in a glass bauble or our Code8 Matte Velour Lipstick stuffed into a miniature stocking are all luxurious options that will leave your guests feeling loved even when they’re leaving.
** Clean up trick ** - If you’re having trouble parting with late-night revellers, present them with a food parcel to take on their way. It’s a subtle yet polite hint it’s time to say goodbye.
