It’s that time of the year again—New York Fashion Week has offically kicked off the SS20 Fashion Month. The heels are high, the street style is second to none and the make-up? The make-up is everything you’d expect from the fashion-forward city.
This season, we made our stateside debut as the official beauty sponsor for Helmut Lang . It was the second runway collection from Mark Thomas and Thomas Cawson and it did not disappoint. And neither did lead make-up artist, Susie Sobel.
Thomas and Cawson’s show brought in the A-crowd, with Maisie Williams, Lucky Blue Smith and Paloma Elsesser all seated front row. The runway featured the likes of Bella Hadid and Abby Champion in minimal tailoring, splashes of neon and some sheer elements. The duo brought back Lang’s 90s style but with a modern update—fans of the brand’s heritage will not be disappointed with this latest collection. A nod to Helmut could be well and truly seen.
Backstage, Susie Sobel was inspired by the ‘90s grunge movement and skate culture. As Thomas and Cawson did with the clothing, so too did Susie give the 90s a modern update. Sobol went for a chunky winged eye with bursts of neon on a neutral base. Want to know how you can recreate the wearable look? You’re in luck - we’ve got every single product Susie used:
Radiate Beauty Balm was used to give a lightweight texture and leave their skin looking naturally radiant and smooth.
Seamless Cover Concealer was used to blur imperfections and smooth out skin while keeping it hydrated.
Highlight HD Palette added definition and created a shiny and sculpted effect.
Susie created several different eyes looks while keeping the lips simple and neutral.
The first eye was a graphic black wing. This was done using the Contour Eye Pencil in Classic Black to add intense colour to the lash line. Then, Sobol used Precision Liquid Liner in Carbon Black to complete the wing for a bold and dramatic look.
The eyes were finished off by coating the lashes with Lash Sophisticate Mascara.
To complete the look Susie dusted the Blush Palette in Rosé on the model’s cheeks. The Blush Palette gives blendable and adjustable colour intensity so it can reflect the season (and your mood).
To create the neon square-winged eyeliner Susie used neon pink pigment eyeliner for a pop of colour to a neutral base.
The neon eye was complimented with a sweep of the Blush Palette in Pink Peach across the cheeks and the Colour Brilliance Sculpting Lipstick in La Piscine on the lips for a natural hue.
The third and final eye look was a smoky, copper squared wing. This was created using highly-pigmented Iconoclast Eyeshadow Palette in Jaipur Marbles which gives long lasting colour. Perfect for the runway, yet equally wearable every day. The Precision Liquid Liner in Carbon Black was then added to give definition and boldness to the eyes.
The look was then completed with the Blush palette in Pink Beach and the Colour Brilliance Sculpting Lipstick on top of the AM/PM Tinted Lip Balm.
All three looks were completed with a dusting of the Matte Velour Powder across the T-Zone to keep skin shine free under the runway lights.
That’s a wrap on our first ever #NYFW – stay tuned for more!
