The Best Easter Break Trips For 2019

Winter is behind us, and ahead is the first real chance to travel somewhere new, beyond the confines of the normal weekend getaway timeframe. Yes, it’s Easter Break. And yet spring travel can be tricky and comes with a distinct set of travel guidelines. If you’re feeling ready to rock the bikini and are after some sun, you have to travel south enough. And if you’re keen for a novel cultural experience and need the weather to be just pleasant enough, then there are specific locations that are especially wonderful in April. Easter falls relatively late, on the 19thto the 22nd this year, giving us a few extra degrees in each location at the very least. Let’s kick off with the first:

1. Florence, Italy

Italophiles who always opt for the Amalfi Coast, Portofino or Sicily come summer tend to miss out on the great Italian urban centres. And while the eternal-city Rome has always been popular, the poetry and physical beauty of Florence, especially for lovers of architecture and design, cannot be overstated. Visually Florence is very coherent, which makes for some breath-taking tawny Tuscan views.

Don’t miss a walk through the Boboli Gardens and a glass of Chianti, the famous wine of the local region, best had at La Terrazza, the rooftop bar atop the Hotel Contintentale, overlooking the Ponte Vechhio at sunset. Heritage brand Emilio Pucci’s namesake designer was from Florence, and you can pay respects in one of the new-season tees, and camouflage wine lips with Opera.

 2. Cappadocia, Turkey

Hundreds of beehive homes and secret churches are also carved into the soft rock. Hot tip: trekking on horseback through the valleys will give you a completely different perspective on the landscape – not to mention highly visual content for your Insta-feed.

Try the horses and guides at Cemal’s Ranch. Feeling lazy? A boat ride on the Kizilirmak River in Avanos is also a beautiful late afternoon option. Get there by transferring at Istanbul to Nevsehir, the capital of the region. Style your Cappadocia look with the namesake lipstick, and a breezy dress, such as this one from Innika Choo.

3. New York, New York

This much-loved global city is an obvious pick, but it’s always worth highlighting what’s new in New York. Especially as what’s new in Manhattan this Spring, is major. Hudson Yards, which opened for the first time on March 15, New York's highly anticipated $25 billion development launched after 10 years in the making.

Located in midtown West where the Highline ends, Hudson Yards is a development with the 2,500-step bronze-and-steel architectural sculpture “the Vessel”, many new luxury commercial and residential units and over 100 new shops and restaurants. And then of course, there’s the rest of never-sleep New York to blaze through over the weekend. If you’re going to be going up all those stairs, we suggest sneakers, such as this Valentino pair, and a smokey eye c/o our palette as a nod to the city’s grit with a palette.

4. Seville, Spain

A true gem, the capital of Andalucia is just over two hours from London and will be positively tropical by Easter Weekend. Both the cuisine (make sure to book Manolo Leon for dinner in the garden) and architecture (don’t miss Andalusian palace Casa de Pilatos) are to die for. There’s no beach nearby, so do book a hotel or Airbnb, which are particularly charming in Seville, with a pool if you’d like to cool off. A flamenco show in Triana is also a must and you can catch an authentic one Saturday night at 22:30 in Sala Baraka Calle Pagés del Corro, 70. Romantic ruffles are in the style of Johanna Ortizare in order, as is Carmen, our 5secs colour shade inspired by the quintessential Spanish femme fatale.

5. Tel Aviv, Israel

Being just over three hours flight time from London and expected to be in the low-to-mid 20s come the third week of April makes Tel Aviv an excellent Easter weekend getaway.

An excellent stretch of beach lined with seaside restaurants and hotels, as well as an extraordinary gastronomy scene thanks to the fusion of cultures that have assimilated there, also makes Tel Aviv a foodie paradise. Dinner favourites are Dalida, Kitchen Market and Abraxas North. Style tip: we suggest Israeli designer Dodo Bar Or and our Matte Velour Lipstick in Pop Art for the bold mood that Tel Aviv calls for.
