Top Three AW19 Makeup Trends

Legendary The Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald once said that “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall”. And he was not wrong. As much as we love summer, there’s so much to appreciate about autumn: crunchy leaves, cosy knitwear, and let’s not forget pumpkin spice lattes, if that’s your thing. (Some say they’re basic, we say they’re delicious.)

And while summer was the time to be fresh-faced and natural, by the time autumn arrives, we all feel ready to pivot from the no-makeup makeup and bring back some oomph. With that mantra in mind, we looked back to the Autumn/Winter ’19 runway makeup trends to come up with the most modern ways to welcome the current autumn season in style. Back-to-the-office needn’t be a drag with the right attitude and the right look. Just as a great pair of boots can transform your autumnal outfits, these makeup looks add a lot of value when it comes to recreating yourself through beauty. Without further ado, here are our top three.

 1. Nothing But Lip

Like in fashion, design, architecture, and all visual arts, there is great beauty in bold contrasts. And this lip-focus look, seen on many AW19 runways, including on looks Code8 created at the London Fashion Week Festival, entail choosing a bold lip colour yet muting and minimising everything else.

Achieving a great skin palette is key for this look. At Osman Studio, our makeup artist Kristina let lips take focus with a variety of colour-pop shades, but stuck to brushed brows, no mascara and no eye makeup. Luminous skin was created with Radiate BB Cream, and highlighter on the eyelids and cheekbones using the Highlight HD Palette.

Quite literally any bold lip shade will work, but we especially love the reds and darker hues for autumn, such as Opera and Lost in Translation from the Matte Velour range, as well as Gala and Midnight in London from Glazé, for a slick modern take on the trend.

 2. Last Night’s Eyes

At heart, we’re all either slightly more lip people or eye people, so here’s one for ladies of the latter group. While a dark eye is always de rigueur in autumn/winter, and the alluring smudgy effect is nothing new, this season’s take on the woke-up-like-this eye makeup trend is a little neater, bolder and more graphic.

For David Koma’s show this season, we achieved this darkly romantic ‘shadow around the eyes’ look using Contour Eye Pencil in Classic Black, our Lash Sophisticate Mascara and Colour Brilliance Eyestick in Dark Dreams.

3. Pure Maximalist Glitz

And then there are those more-is-more people, and most importantly, there are more-is-more moments. Taking a page out of incredible new breakout brand 16 Arlington’s ultra-glamorous debut, in which we created the strong beauty mood, maximalism is about ensuring brows are strong, and that the eyes and lips are equally bold. Using colourful shades from our Iconoclast Palettes such as Jaipur Marbles and Burnt Sienna, and a variety of complementary lip shades, makeup artist Marie Bruce also created statement brows with Code8’s Eye Pencil in Mocha or Classic Black. The result is dazzling. Vitamin D? Who needs it.
