How To Find Your Undertone In 3 Easy Steps

How To Find Your Undertone
in 3 Easy Steps

If you want makeup that perfectly matches your skin, it’s important to know your undertone. Not sure what it is? Our three-step guide to finding your undertone is here to help.

Undertone Matched Foundation

Understanding how to know your skin undertone is crucial if you want to achieve a flawless makeup look. Not only will it help you find a foundation that blends in beautifully to your natural complexion, but it will also make choosing eyeshadow shades to make your eyes pop and lipsticks that best compliment your colouring easier, too.

But what are undertones and how do you find your undertone correctly? To put it simply your undertones are the hue underneath the surface of your skin:

- If you have cool undertones, your skin will appear pink, red, purple or blue
- If you have warm undertones, your skin will seem peachy, yellow, or golden
- Neutral undertones mean you have a mix of warm and cool tones

Read on for our quick and simple guide explaining "how to find your undertone" and you’ll never struggle with an online shade matcher again.

Metal Undertone Test

How to find your undertone test 1 - The metal test
One of the oldest beauty hacks to help you find out your undertone is to take a look in your jewellery box and look at which colour metals you wear. If you look good in gold jewellery, you probably have warm undertones. But if you think you look better in silver, then it’s most likely you have cool undertones, and if you can wear both, then you likely have neutral undertones.

How to find your undertone test 2 - The white clothes test
Another way to find out your undertones is to think about the kind of clothes you most like to wear. If you are drawn to white clothing because you find it enhances your skin tone, then you probably have warm undertones. If you find that white tends to wash you out, it’s much more likely that you have a cool undertone.

How to find your undertone test 3 - The vein test
The third and final way to easily find and know your undertone is to look at the veins on your wrist. If they're slightly greenish, then you have warm undertones. If they appear blue or have a purple tinge to them, then you have cool undertones. If you have a mix of green and blue, then you have neutral undertones.

Now you’ve worked out how to know which undertones you have, you can use this information to help work out which Day To Night Foundation and Radiate Beauty Balm shades would be best suited for you for your skin tone.
